【摘要】:Thispracticeisusedbyartists,designers,scientists,engineers,andgovernmentregulators,tospecifyanexistingordesiredcolor.Itisusedinthenaturalsciencestorecordthecolorsofspecimens,oridentifyspecimens,suchashumancomplexion,flowers,foliage,soils,andminerals.Itisusedtospecifycolorsforcommerceandforcontrolofcolor-productionprocesses,wheninstrumentalcolormeasurementisnoteconomical.TheMunsellsystemiswidelyusedforcolortolerancing,evenwheninstrumentationisemployed(seePracticeD3134).Itiscommonpracticetohavecolorchipsmadetoillustrateanaimcolorandthejusttolerabledeviationsfromthatcolorinhue,value,andchroma,suchasetofchipsbeingcalledaColorToleranceSet.Acolortolerancesetexhibitstheaimcolorandcolortolerancessothateveryoneinvolvedintheselection,production,andacceptanceofthecolorcandirectlyperceivetheintentofthespecification,beforebiddingtosupplythecolororstartingproduction.Acolortolerancesetmaybemeasuredtoestablishinstrumentaltolerances.Withoutextensiveexperience,itmaybeimpossibletovisualizethemeaningofnumbersresultingfromcolormeasurement,butbythispractice,thenumberscanbetranslatedtotheMunsellcolor-ordersystem,whichisexemplifiedbycoloredchipsforvisualexamination.Thiscolor-ordersystemisthebasisoftheISCC-NBSMethodofDesignatingColorsandaDictionaryofColorNames,aswellastheUniversalColorLanguage,whichassociatescolornames,intheEnglishlanguage,withMunsellnotations(3).1.1ThispracticeprovidesameansofspecifyingthecolorsofobjectsintermsoftheMunsellcolorordersystem,asystembasedonthecolor-perceptionattributeshue,lightness,andchroma.Thepracticeislimitedtoopaqueobjects,suchaspaintedsurfacesviewedindaylightbyanobserverhavingnormalcolorvision.ThispracticeprovidesasimplevisualmethodasanalternativetothemorepreciseandmorecomplexmethodbasedonspectrophotometryandtheCIEsystem(seePracticesE308andE1164).ProvisionismadeforconversionofCIEdatatoMunsellnotation.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
